Enhancing the Reliability of Dense LoRaWAN Networks With Multi-User Receivers

LoRaWAN is a low-power wireless technology that provides long-range connectivity to battery-powered Internet of things (IoT) devices. To minimize the energy consumption IoT nodes, networks use for uplink pure non-slotted ALOHA multiple access scheme. Since devices are not synchronized in time, collisions between packets main source errors when number nodes becomes important. improve reliability dense networks, we propose this paper successive interference cancellation LoRa receiver capable decoding frames from two colliding users. The proposed two-user detector leverages bit-interleaved coded modulation scheme detection and strongest interfering user. We show presence users, usage low coding-rate iterative soft-detection essential attain error rates sufficiently close single-user scenario. Using network-level simulations, subsequently evaluate gains our realistic network. end, build advanced models studied receivers using Monte-Carlo simulations at physical layer. For an overall packet rate 1%, simulation results indicate network employing may serve 4.7 times more than with only gateway.
